Notes from the Teachers' Desks
Wow! What an amazing second grade we have this year! We are so excited about the all the learning that is going to take place in room 307.
Following are things that we will be learning the third quarter:
Language Arts
Story Selections: Tall Tales, Folktales & Fairy Tales
Comprehension: story elements (main characters, setting, problem & solution, plot), infers cause and effect, compares and contrast story elements
Word Attack/Spelling: See spelling list in Boomerang folder. Uses word parts to determine meaning, uses dictionary, glossary and thesaurus
Grammar & Writing Skills: writing complete sentences with appropriate capitalization and punctuation (expected at all times), recogonizes and uses verbs correctly, constructs persuasive pieces (states and supports opinion)
Math: place value to 1,000, graphs & tables, quick recall of math facts, counting money
Science: matter & seasons
Social Studies: government and Georgia regions and rivers

Tuesday
Read aloud story selection & record minutes (15 minutes every night), complete comprehension response page, write vocabulary sentences (optional but highly recommended), read aloud story to an adult, practice missed spelling words, practice math facts
