                      Reading is Thinking!

Because we know that real reading requires thinking we teach specific comprehension strategies that proficient readers use to construct meaning from text.. These strategies help students build on past knowledge, master new information and connect with new experiences. We teach students how to have a real conversation about books and what they are thinking about as they read. Madeline L"Engle said, "In reading we must become creators, imagining the setting of the story, seeing the facial expressions, hearing the inflection of the voices. The author and the reader "know" each other." -Walking on Water: Reflections on Faith and Water

The following is a summary of the 7 reading strategies that we will be teaching. If you are interested in learning more you may like to read
